Winner of the ARIA Award for ‘Best Female Artist’ for two years in succession, as well as five Tui awards at the New Zealand Music Awards, last week Kimbra offered her highly-anticipated sophomore album, ‘The Golden Echo’, which shot into in the ARIA and RIANZ charts at #5 this week.
‘The Golden Echo’, featuring singles ‘90’s Music’ and ‘Miracle’, was co-produced by Kimbra and Rich Costey and the wonderful kaleidoscope of collaborators include members of the Mars Volta, Muse, Foster the People, and Daniel Johns of Silverchair.
“The Golden Echo is hugely ambitious, unerringly sophisticated and loaded with the kind of episodic segues and codas that confirm a rare surfeit of ideas and, crucially, the production expertise to make them fly.” Rolling Stone Australia
“…an album that’s less of a sophomoric follow-up and more of a bonafide pop classic.” The Guardian
‘…it’s pure Kimbra, and it’s a brilliant, tumbling trip of a record from beginning to end.” Fasterlouder
“…a sound palette that surprises and delights,” The New Zealand Herald
Kimbra emerged with her debut album ‘Vows’ in 2011. The album is home to singles: ‘Settle Down’, ‘Cameo Lover’ (for which she won the grand prize in the International Song Writing Competition 2011), ‘Good Intent’ and ‘Two Way Street’; all of which ranked in Triple J’s Hottest 100. The album debuted in the US Billboard Top 200 at #14 and achieved platinum status in both New Zealand and Australia.
In 2012 Kimbra followed up with the #1 worldwide smash hit, ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, her duet with Gotyé, which topped the charts in eleven countries. The massive single retained the #1 ARIA spot for an impressive eight weeks, was the biggest selling single in the US in 2012 and won two GRAMMY Awards.
